in a broad sense relays are switches. There is a coil inside and that coil does wonderful little things when current flows through, things like attract an armature. This attraction will complete or disconnect a contact and drive something like a blinker for a car. My relay was not working so i jumped two pins to run my fuel pump.
Seriously. Who the hell needs relays? Not me.
