being found not guilty by a jury of your peers……the law (round 1)
    round 2 pending…

I’ve got my fingers crossed for twenty-to-life. Aside from the whole double homicide thing–for being a royal dumbass.

  3. murt on September 17th, 2007 7:21 am

Unfortunately…or maybe I should say fortunately being a “royal dumbass” isn’t yet a crime. And if my memory serves me being tried by a jury of your peers for things such as double homicide are left to such juries to decide not media hysteria. But you know I heard some where that things are being done a bit different these days…some where in Cuba on a navy base or something can’t quite remember the name think it starts with a G….

Yesterday I saw a lifted white dodge ram pickup truck with one and only one sticker on it. It was a picture of OJ’s face and said the word ‘honkey’ below it. It was really confusing.

OJ’s not a honkey but is definitely a bastard.

YOU THINK YOU CAN SELL MY SHIT!

  6. 302 on September 17th, 2007 9:58 am

It just isn’t the same without a good car chase

  7. Artillery on September 17th, 2007 10:37 am

    Seriously 302.

Mike, there have been few homicide trials in LA with more evidence than that one. If Ito had been following the law he would have called it a mistrial early on.

I love how everyone became experts not only on law but on OJ’s trial by watching the 6 o’clock news. He was found guilty by the media but again not guilty by a jury of his peers. Have you really been an astute follower of homicide trials coming out of LA? Do you really know how many homicides have taken place in LA?

    Question:

If a murderer is found innocent by a jury of his peers–does that change the fact he commited the crime? Try and ignore the fact that it’s OJ.

  10. murt on September 18th, 2007 12:18 am

oh I forgot you were there when it happened. I’m sorry….try and ignore the fact that the victims where white and the supposed criminal was black. But you know the millionth time I saw OJ’s face on the news the more it all made sense….Also try and get things moved down to Cuba. (less paperwork, less courtroom time, no jury necessary, more justice!) In the words of our CIC, “it would be a helluva lot easier”

Gosh, I sure miss you Mike. And…you’re still wrong.

  12. TUFTSMANIA on September 18th, 2007 12:42 pm

all us non-lawyers could argue this all day. anyone here pass the bar yet?

  13. Artillery on September 18th, 2007 3:47 pm

According to Mike we only need 12 laypeople to decide reality based on facts presented…so I think passing the bar is irrelevent. But I certainly haven’t.

  14. murt on September 18th, 2007 7:53 pm

“and…you’re still wrong” stand back Hillary is speaking everyone! “12 laypeople” i.e. a jury is how its done in the United States. Trial by “laypeople”, “jury of your peers”, “randomly selected citizens” is how any homicide is dealt with to prove guilt. The “reality” or more accurately “the outcome” of the trial must be arrived at this way. The bar is useful to those who facilitate the proceedings. I’m confused on how you think it should be done. I am not a fan nor a non-fan of OJ but if he was found not guilty for the murder you must either accept it or accept it. Our justice system process is a critical element to our democracy albeit imperfect. I can’t think of a more “democratic” way to do it. I highly doubt you have looked at the case closely (except of course the 6 o’clock news). I also know you probably have a hard time allowing race to be looked at when explaing any phenomenon. OJ is a victim and product of our culture. I miss you too Hillary keep up the Artillery. And…I’m still right.

  15. Artillery on September 19th, 2007 3:02 am

Michael. I agree with you 100% about our justice system. We have no disagreement there. I am talking about whether or not he killed people. Not whether or not he was found guilty in a court of law–I am allowed to have my opinion regarding his guilt of innocence (that I obtained not only from the 6 o’clock news). I think the justice system failed. That’s all. I think our judicial system is the best in the world. And you’re right that I have a hard time letting race get in the way of that process. I think people should be held accountable for their actions and their ethnicity should not interfere. If you believe that OJ was a “victim” of the system then I fear this conversation will never going to end.

  16. murt on September 19th, 2007 8:27 am

I glad you agree on our justice system. I certainly wouldn’t say its the best in the world. (Guantanamo Bay and the death penalty) I am still a bit doubtful that you could possibly have more evidence or facts then those people sitting in the jury and could therefore have made a better judgement. I didn’t say OJ was a victim of our “system” implying the justice system but our “culture” (reference post). The media hysteria and ensuing assumed guilt was shameful. This process produced a country full of armchair jurors. I also wasn’t talking about race getting in the way of the “process” as you stated. I meant in the sense that race should still be looked at in our country to explain phenomenon/reactions in our media, public sentiment, etc etc. OJ was a well known black male who was accused of killing his white wife and friend. If you really think that no one believed that OJ was guilty just on this alone consciously or subconsciously I implore you to take another look. OJ didn’t kill anyone according to a court of law and I’m ok with that. If he did commit any recent crimes as your post implies I hope justice is served.
